Product Design Engineer

The Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AMI), at Kansas State University, is seeking a product design engineer to provide assistance to small companies, entrepreneurs, and university researchers that are in the early stages of developing new technologies and products.

Responsibilities for this position include: early stage development of new technologies and products that balance customer requirements, innovative design elements, functional performance, and manufacturability for a variety of industry sectors. Specific activities include: technical feasibility studies, product planning, specifications development, creation/selection of design concepts, detailing designs, hands-on prototyping, functional performance testing, and project implementation.

Qualifications include: bachelor’s degree in engineering with a design emphasis, and at least five years experience in new product development of electro-mechanical products. The successful candidate should possess mechanical aptitude to develop/refine prototypes; working knowledge of 3D modeling software; passion to learn new technologies; experience in technology-intensive projects from ideation to launch; proven project management skills and excellent customer relations skills. The candidate must also be able to work independently and within cross-functional teams and be capable of mentoring future engineering professionals.
